![]() Nochlin argues that presenting and answering question “Why have there been no great women artists?” can influence the art field, spread the discourse into other fields (ie: history, social sciences, literature), and thus, challenge the overall assumption that traditional, convenient methods of intellectual inquiry can truly satisfy important questions of our time such as this. In art history, the “so-called woman question” should be critically explored and implemented as a “catalyst” or tool to challenge “natural” assumptions, prompt important questions, and link with ideologies from other fields.
